The Jacksonville Jaguars release Cleo Lemon

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by admin on Monday 29 June 2009 at 6:03 pm

The Jaguars have released Cleo Lemon.  That means the Jags will go into this season with Todd Bouman being the backup QB.  The Jags could be playing with fire here as Bouman hasn’t played in a real game in a long time.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release CB Will James

The Jaguars have released 29-year old CB Will James.  James played in 8 games for the Jaguars last season and he made 15 tackles.  James has now played in 76 games in his 8-year NFL career and he has made 253 tackles, has defensed 35 passes, forced 1 fumble and he has intercepted 6 passes.  The Jaguars shouldn’t miss James too much in 2009.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are set up well at QB for 2009

The Jaguars need David Garrard to play like it’s 2007 again when he was one of the better QBs in the NFL.  Not many QBs offer Garrard’s skill set of a good arm and fast feet.  The problem is that the Jags’ never got Garrard much help at WR but that may be changing with the addition of Torry Holt.  Cleo Lemon will be Garrard’s backup again in 2009 and he’s a lot like Garrard with a little less arm and he’s not quite as fast.  Still, the Jags would have a significant drop in offensive production if Lemon were pressed into service.  Veteran Todd Bouman gives the Jaguars a third option at QB as he like Garrard and Lemon has some experience starting in the NFL.  Paul Smith will likely be on the practice squad in 2009 if he makes the team.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE 2009 SEASON:  B

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign S/CB Marlon McCree

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by admin on Sunday 7 June 2009 at 10:57 pm

The Jaguars have signed 32-year old defensive back Marlon McCree.  McCree played in 8 games for the Broncos last season and he made 29 tackles and defensed 2 passes.  McCree has now played in 114 games in his NFL career and he has made 448 tackles, has defensed 42 passes, has 3 sacks, forced 4 fumbles and he has intercepted 16 passes (one of which he returned for a TD).  This was a good depth signing for the Jaguars as McCree still appears to have some game left.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release OT Charles Spencer

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by admin on Wednesday 27 May 2009 at 8:35 pm

The Jaguars have decided to quit waiting for OT Charles Spencer to get healthy and have released him.  Spencer only played in 2 games (both starts) in his three year NFL career.  It’s too bad that he couldn’t stay healthy as he is a talented football player.
