Jaguars lose a heartbreaker 27-24 to Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 26 November 2006 at 11:21 pm

David Garrard threw a 3-yard TD pass to Matt Jones to tie the game with the Bills at 24-24 with 28 seconds left in the game.  The Bills then got the ball close enough to kick a 42-yard game-winning field-goal as time expired!

David Garrard had a solid game as he completed 16 of 22 passes for 132 yards and 2 TDs.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 28 yards (5.6 ypc).  Fred Taylor was also outstanding as he carried the ball 22 times for 101 yards (4.6 ypc).  Maurice Drew also had a fine game with 8 carries for 78 yards (9.8 ypc) and a TD.  Drew also caught 5 passes for 47 yards.  George Wrighster (3 rec, 33 yards) and Reggie Williams (4 rec, 31 yards) helped out in the passing game.  Matt Jones and rookie TE Mercedes Lewis each caught TD passes.

The defense played well as they only allowed the Bills to rush for 72 yards on 23 carries (3.1 ypc).  The Bills completed 21 of 28 passes for 169 net yards thru the air.  The Jags did have a special teams breakdown as Roscoe Parrish returned a punt 82 yards for a TD!

This loss will sting for awhile as the Jags fall to 6-5 on the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills

The Jaguars are starting to get hot as they have won three of their last four games.  The Bills also have played better lately and have won 2 of their last 3 games.

The Bills will probably get back to their running game as they might have Willis McGahee back for the game. With the temperature expected to be in the 30’s with a chance of snow, this game will be decided on the ground.  McGahee & Thomas will have a rough time possibly against the rugged Jags defense that is allowing 95.8 yards rushing per game and 3.5 yards per carry.  J.P. Losman had one of the best games of his career last week, but he better be careful with Rashean Mathis probably drawing the coverage on Lee Evans.  Evans had a monster game last week with 11 receptions for 265 yards and 2 TDs, but Mathis already has 6 interceptions on the season.

The Jags will undoubtedly come out running the football with Fred Taylor (775 yards rushing), Maurice Drew (376 yards rushing) and David Garrard against the Bills defense which is allowing 128.0 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  The Jags really don’t have the speed at WR to exploit the Bills problems in the secondary (212.8 net yards passing per game).

Look for this to be a low-scoring football game.  The Jags seem a little better equipped to win this type of game, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bills won either.

Jags shrink the Giants 26-10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 21 November 2006 at 2:26 am

The Jaguars punched the Giants in the mouth all night long.  David Garrard had a solid game completing 19 of 32 passes for 249 yards.  He also carried the ball 9 times for 31 yards (3.4 ypc).  Fred Taylor had a decent game with 24 carries for 79 yards (3.3 ypc) and a TD.  Maurice Drew carried the ball 9 times for 45 yards (5.0 ypc) and a TD.  Ernest Wilford (5 rec, 72 yards) and George Wrighster (4 rec, 54 yards) were the leading receivers for the Jags.

Clint Ingram (6 tackles, INT) and Deion Grant (3 tackles, INT) led the way on defense for the Jags on Monday night.  The Jags held the Giants to 25 yards rushing on 14 carries (1.8 ypc).  The Giants only completed 19 of 41 passes for 222 net yards thru the air.

The Jags really needed this win as it got them to 6-4 and back in the playoff chase.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Saturday 18 November 2006 at 12:15 am

The Giants had their five-game winning streak snapped last week when the Bears smacked them down 38-20!  The Jaguars suffered a disappointing loss to the Texans last week.  The Jags have been playing great defense, as they have only given up 26 total points the last three weeks.

Look for the Giants to run Tiki Barber (971 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (286 yards rushing) at the Jags defense that allows 103.7 yards rushing per game.  After the Giants establish the running game, look for Eli Manning to take some shots deep to Plaxico Burress.  Also, Manning will be looking for Shockey to keep the Jags safeties honest so that they can’t sneak up to help in run support.

The Jaguars must be able to run the football or they will be in trouble on Monday Night.  Fred Taylor (696 yards rushing) and Maurice Drew (331 yards rushing) will test the Giants defense all night long.  David Garrard is also a good running QB, which should help.  The Jags lack speed at receiver, so Garrard will have to be sharp on the short passes.

The Giants have the better football team and should win this football game.

Jaguars swept by the TEXANS after 13-10 loss

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 12 November 2006 at 9:40 pm

The Jaguars got pushed around by the Texans and David Garrard kept throwing them the football!  David Garrard completed only 15 of 34 passes for 214 yards with 4 INTs, he also had 4 carries for 44 yards.  Fred Taylor had a good game, carrying the ball 12 times for 63 yards (5.3 ypc) and caught 5 passes for 71 yards.  Maurice Drew carried the ball 3 times for 11 yards (3.7 ypc) and a TD, he also caught 4 passes for 56 yards.  Ernest Wilford caught 2 passes for 50 yards.

LB Daryl Smith had a good game with 10 tackles and a sack.  The Texans just kept running the ball against the Jags who had problems stopping them.  The Texans carried the ball 42 times for 148 yards (3.5 ypc).  The Texans completed 17 of 35 passes for 158 net yards passing.

This really hurts the Jaguars playoff chances as the schedule gets tougher.

Starting LT Khalif Barnes was arrested and charged on Saturday with DUI.  He’s out of jail but his status is unknown for the game against the Texans.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 10 November 2006 at 4:38 pm

The Texans will try to sweep the Jaguars after punishing them just three weeks ago (27-7)!  The Jaguars will be looking for revenge and they’ve played well since that beat down winning both of their games by a combined score of 50-13.

The Texans offense has looked much better the last three weeks.  Wali Lundy has been running the ball well and David Carr has been getting time to throw.  The Texans will try to run the ball first against the Jaguars with Lundy (309 yards rushing) against a tough Jags defense that allows 98.3 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry.  If Carr keeps getting protection against the Jags, he could have success throwing the ball to Andre Johnson (65 rec, 732 yards), Eric Moulds and TE Owen Daniels.

The Jaguars with revenge on the mind will try to beat up the Texans defense physically with their running game.  Fred Taylor (633 yards rushing) and Maurice Drew (320 yards rushing) will keep the offense humming against the Texans who allow 133.0 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  QB David Garrard is also a threat to run the ball, but he will likely try to pass short off of play-action and he should have success against a very giving pass defense of the Texans (216.5 net yards passing).

I think the Jags will probably get their revenge on Sunday, but the Texans should come into this game very confident because of the beating they administered just three weeks ago to the Jags.  This will be a much better game than most people think it will and the Texans will definately cover the 10.5 point spread.

Rookie DE out for season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Friday 10 November 2006 at 1:03 am

Rookie defensive end Brent Hawkins will miss the rest of the season for the Jaguars.  He finished his rookie season with 2 sacks.  This hurts the Jags a bit because of all the injuries along the defensive line.

QB controversy brewing on the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 8 November 2006 at 11:34 pm

Coach Del Rio is planning on starting David Garrard until Byron Leftwich is 100%, which likely won’t be until next season as Leftwich’s ankle could need surgery to repair it.  Leftwich is trying to gut out the injury, but Del Rio thinks that Leftwich favors the ankle and that it will hurt the team.

Leftwich has completed 59.0% of his passes for 1,159 yards with 7 TDs and 5 INTs.  Leftwich has a QB rating this season of 79.0 which is about average.  Byron is a much better passer than Garrard is, but Garrard is much more mobile especially with Leftwich’s ankle bothering him.  It is possible that the Jags will entertain trade offers in the off-season for Leftwich if Garrard continues to play well.

David Garrard is a scrambling type QB that likes to roll the pocket.  Garrard doesn’t have the gun that Leftwich has, but his arm is strong enough to get by.  He has completed 56.4% of his passes for 264 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs.  Garrard has a QB rating of 102.9 and has looked good in leading the team on the field.  Garrard also is a good runner with 10 carries for 50 yards so far this season.

Jags punish the Titans 37-7

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 5 November 2006 at 10:36 pm

David Garrard led an efficient Jags offense in a rainstorm.  Garrard completed 12 of 22 passes for 177 yards and 3 TDs, he also carried the ball 2 times for 14 yards.  Fred Taylor had an outstanding game with 13 carries for 79 yards (6.1 ypc).  Maurice Drew carried the ball 8 times for 56 yards (7.0 ypc) and caught 2 passes for 29 yards.  Matt Jones caught 3 passes for 66 yards in his first game back from injury.  Ernest Wilford had a huge game with 3 catches for 44 yards and 2 TDs.  George Wrighster only caught 1 pass, but it was a 14 TD reception.

LB Clint Ingram led the way on the defense with 10 tackles.  CB Rashean Mathis had another great game with 4 tackles and 2 interceptions!  DB Scott Starks had 3 tackles and an interception that he returned 55 yards for a TD.  The Titans ran the ball 32 times for 108 yards (3.4 ypc).  The Jags allowed the Titans to complete 15 of 36 passes for 154 net yards passing.
