Jacksonville Jaguars 20, Atlanta Falcons 17

The Jaguars played conservatively on Saturday Night but it was good enough to beat the Falcons.  David Garrard was not too sharp passing the ball as he completed 4 of 10 passes for 44 yards, but, he also carried the ball 2 times for 22 yards (11.0 ypc) and he scored a TD.  Cleo Lemon was a little better than Garrard was on Saturday completing 6 of 10 passes for 46 yards.  Todd Bouman finished up the game completing 5 of 10 passes for 44 yards.  Greg Jones led the Jaguars in rushing with 39 yards on only 5 carries (7.8 ypc).  Rookie Chauncey Washington got a lot of work in as he carried the ball 12 times for 33 yards (2.8 ypc) with a 2-yard TD run, but he also lost a fumble.  Maurice Jones-Drew pitched in with 23 yards rushing on 5 carries (4.6 ypc).  Matt Jones led the Jaguars in receiving with 37 yards on 3 grabs (12.3 avg) on Saturday Night.  The Jaguars finished up with 136 yards rushing on 32 carries (4.1 ypc) against the Falcons.  They also completed 15 of 30 passes for 129 yards.  The offense needs a little bit of work but the Jags have a lot of time to get ready for the regular season.

The defense was a little up and down against the Falcons.  DE Mkristo Bruce had a huge game for the Jaguars with 5 tackles and 2.5 sacks on Saturday Night.  Cornerback Scott Starks also had a decent game finishing with 5 tackles. The Falcons did manage 115 yards rushing on 24 carries (4.8 ypc).  They also completed 21 of 43 passes for 228 yards Saturday Night.  The Jaguars were bending on defense but they still held the Falcons to only 17 points which was a good thing.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign DE Bo Schobel

With first round pick Derrick Harvey still a holdout the Jags signed 27-year old Bo Schobel to help them with depth.  Schobel played in 2 games (0 starts) with the Cardinals last season and he made 1 whole tackle.  Schobel is backup material and nothing more as he hasn’t made many plays in his NFL career to date.  He has now played in 29 games (2 starts) in his NFL career and he has made 45 tackles and has 1.5 sacks.  This was a decent low risk signing for the Jags for depth reasons.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign G Chris Liwienski

The Jaguars have signed offensive guard Chris Liwienski.  The 32-year old should provide depth this season for the Jags.  He played in 16 games (14 starts) for the Dolphins last season.  Liwienski is a big guy at 6′5″, 325 pounds that fits the physical style of offense that the Jaguars love to run.  He has played 10 seasons in the NFL covering 126 games, 94 of which he started.  This was a nice signing for the Jaguars.
