Jacksonville Jaguars 3, San Francisco 49ers 20

Blogged under Bloglockers,Game Recaps,Jaguar Headlines by Andrew on Monday 30 November 2009 at 11:45 pm

The Jacksonville Jaguars (6-5) had their three game winning streak snapped Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers (5-6).  The offense didn’t play terrible, but they failed to find the endzone and turned the ball over twice.  David Garrard put up some pretty decent passing numbers, 307 yards on 25/36 passes, but he couldn’t put any points on the board and had the two big fumble losses.  Maurice Jones-Drew didn’t play terrible either, rushing for 75 yards on 15 carries, but he just could not get passed that goal line.  Three points is never enough from your offense, and the Jags are going to need their offense to step it up.

The Jaguars defense gave a strong effort, but with no support from the offense they were going to need to get some points themselves and it didn’t happen.  They were not able to force any turnovers and they let the inconsistent Alex Smith throw for 2 touchdowns and 232 yards on 27/41 passes.  They did a great job keeping Niners’ running back Frank Gore in check, holding him to 33 yards on 16 carries.  It just wasn’t enough though as the Jags’ offense was shut down and they lost the turnover battle.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ San Francisco 49ers preview

Blogged under Bloglockers,If I Were a Betting Man,This Week's Matchup Report by Andrew on Saturday 28 November 2009 at 9:12 am

The Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) are looking for their fourth win in a row this week and will facing off against the San Francisco 49ers (4-6).  The Jaguars’ offense has been doing a good job taking care of the ball and that is the main reason they have a three game winning streak.  Quarterback David Garrard only has one interception during that streak, and if he can continue to be smart with the ball the Jaguars will have a great shot at winning this one.  Maurice Jones-Drew is going to play through a knee injury and should still be very effective against a 49ers defense that has been struggling against the run lately.  If Jones-Drew’s knee is bothering him a lot though, the Jaguars may be in some trouble.

The Jaguars’ defense needs to get some turnovers and do their best to limit running back Frank Gore.  Gore is averaging 5.4 yards per carry this season, but he doesn’t get much help from his quarterbacks.  Alex Smith has started the last five games for the Niners and has thrown at least one interception in every one.  Smith’s inconsistency will likely continue and I think this will give the Jaguars the edge.  I think the Jaguars will win the turnover battle and thus win the game because of it.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Jacksonville Jaguars 24, San Francisco 49ers 21

The Jacksonville Jaguars waive LB Adam Seward

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Jaguar Headlines by admin on Friday 27 November 2009 at 1:05 pm

The Jaguars have waived 27-year old linebacker Adam Seward.  Seward played in 3 games for the Jags this season and he had 1 whopping tackle.  He has now played 5 years in the NFL appearing in 43 games in which he has made 46 tackles.  The Jaguars won’t miss Seward at all as they continue to trim the fat from the roster.

Mike Thomas is really stepping up for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up,The Draft Report by admin on Wednesday 25 November 2009 at 10:01 pm

Mike Thomas has played pretty well for the Jaguars this season serving as the teams’ #3 WR.  Thomas has played in 8 games for the Jaguars this season and he has carried the ball 9 times for 82 yards (9.1 ypc) and he has also caught 25 passes for 223 yards (8.9 avg).  The 4th round pick out of Arizona might push Torry Holt to a new city next season if he finishes this year strongly.

The Jacksonville Jaguars place Bryan Smith on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports,Jaguar Headlines by admin on Tuesday 24 November 2009 at 5:39 pm

The Jaguars have lost 25-year old DE Bryan Smith for the rest of the year due to a shoulder injury.  Smith played in 6 games for the Jaguars this season and he has 6 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss.  This is not a big loss for the Jaguars.

Jacksonville Jaguars 18, Buffalo Bills 15

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by Andrew on Monday 23 November 2009 at 10:25 pm

The Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) needed a late game winning drive, led by David Garrard to beat the Buffalo Bills (3-7) on Sunday.  Garrard had a solid game for the Jags, throwing for 215 yards and a touchdown on 21/3o passes.  He was picked off once, but Garrard hit Mike Sims-Walker for a 3-yard touchdown pass with only 56 seconds left in the game.  Maurice Jones Drew got the running game going with 66 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, and the Jags had 102 rushing yards as a team.

The Jaguars defense did a great job getting some turnovers, picking quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick twice and recovering a fumble.  They did not do a good job covering Terrell Owens though.  Owens, who has been very quiet all season, put up some huge numbers on the Jags.  He caught nine balls for 197 yards, including a 98 yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.  The Jags held Fred Jackson to only 35 yards on 9 carries and the defense did enough to let the offense get the exciting comeback win.

Mike Sims-Walker has been outstanding this season for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 21 November 2009 at 10:34 pm

24-year old WR Mike Sims-Walker is finally healthy this season and he is playing very well.  Sims-Walker has played in 8 games for the Jaguars this year and he has caught 39 passes for 603 yards (15.5 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  The Jaguars have needed a #1 WR for a long time now and they might finally have one.  Sims-Walker only played in 9 games in his first two years in the NFL because of knee problems and he caught 16 passes for 217 yards (13.6 avg) without a TD.  The Jaguars need him to keep up the good work.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign G/T Paul McQuistan

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Saturday 21 November 2009 at 6:21 pm

The Jaguars have signed 26-year old G/T Paul McQuistan.  McQuistan played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Raiders before being cut earlier this season.  He has now played in 35 games (12 starts) in his NFL career.  McQuistan will help the depth of the offensive line as he can play on the interior or the outside of the line because he’s a big guy at 6’6″, 315 pounds.  To make room on the roster for McQuistan the Jaguars have released 31-year old safety Brian Russell.  Russell played in all 9 games for the Jaguars this season and he made 12 tackles.  It was a tad surprising that the Jags cut Russell despite all of the injuries in the secondary.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Buffalo Bills preview

The Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4) are hosting a new look Buffalo Bills (3-6) team this Sunday.  The Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron and have a new interim head coach in Perry Fewell, who is starting Ryan Fitzpatrick instead of Trent Edwards.  With a different coach and quarterback, it will be a little more difficult for the Jaguars to prepare for this game.  Fitzpatrick has not been very good in the few games he has played this year, but he did lead the Bills to two wins out of his three starts earlier this season.  They will most likely be relying a lot on their running backs Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch.  Neither back has been particularly good this year, but both are proven backs and Jackson has found more success in the Wildcat formation.  The Jags are giving up 118 rushing yards per contest, so they need to be ready for the Bills to attack them on the ground.

The Jags offense has had Maurice Jones-Drew putting them on his back lately, and it has been working.  In the last four games, Jones-Drew has rushed for 560 yards on 91 carries (5.6 avg) and 7 touchdowns.  The Jags have won three of those four games.  The Jags should continue to feed the ball to Jones-Drew and the Bills will have a hard time stopping him.  They are giving up 173 rushing yards per game, so Jones-Drew will most likely have a big game and would be a good player to have on your fantasy team this week.  David Garrard has benefitted from Drew’s strong play and has had two solid games in a row.  The Jaguars should be able to run all over the Bills so I am picking them to win somewhat easily.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Buffalo Bills 17, Jacksonville Jaguars 27

The Jacksonville Jaguars lose Rashean Mathis for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports,Jaguar Headlines by admin on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 7:22 pm

The Jaguars will be without cornerback Rashean Mathis for a while due to a strained groin.  Mathis has played in 8 games for the Jaguars this season and he has 26 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 7 passes defensed and 3 interceptions.  Mathis is a lockdown CB and the Jags will miss him big time.  Starting free safety Reggie Nelson will likely shift to CB to replace Mathis in the starting lineup.  Nelson has played in 9 games this season for the Jags and he has 44 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and he has defensed 4 passes.  Sean Considine or Brian Russell will replace Nelson at free safety while Mathis is out of action.  Considine has played in 5 games for the Jaguars this season and he has 20 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and he has defensed 1 pass.  Brian Russell has played in 9 games for the Jags this season and he has 12 tackles.  Mathis’ injury will hurt the Jaguars at both safety and cornerback.
