Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 31 December 2009 at 3:33 pm

Starting TE Mercedes Lewis will likely miss the game this weekend against the Browns after suffering a concussion.  Lewis played in 15 games this season for the Jaguars and he caught 32 passes for 518 yards (16.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Rookie 6th round pick Zach Miller out of Nebraska-Omaha could get the start this weekend at TE against the Browns.  He has caught 13 passes for 143 yards (11.0 avg) so far this season.

Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jacksonville Jaguars makes the Pro Bowl

24-year old running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been elected to the Pro Bowl and he will be the only Jaguar there.  He has played in 15 games for the Jaguars this season and he has carried the ball 296 times for 1,309 yards (4.4 ypc) with 15 TD runs.  Jones-Drew has also caught 52 passes for 368 yards (7.1 avg) with 1 TD grab.  This was Jones-Drew’s first season as the featured back in the Jaguars’ offense and he showed that he is more than capable of handling the job.

The Jaguars got punished yesterday in Foxboro.  David Garrard had a very sub par game yesterday as he completed 19 of 25 passes for 185 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 10 yards (2.5 ypc) with a TD run.  Maurice Jones-Drew pitched in with 63 yards rushing on 18 carries (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 35 yards (11.7 avg).  Rashad Jennings pitched in yesterday with 2 carries for 25 yards (12.5 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 19 yards (6.3 avg).  Rookie WR Mike Thomas led the way in the passing game for the Jaguars with 6 grabs for 57 yards (9.5 avg) yesterday.  The Jaguars finished up with 275 total yards on offense (98 rushing, 177 passing) in this game.

Linebacker Daryl Smith (10 tackles, fumble recovery) and safety Gerald Alexander (9 tackles) pitched in with solid games despite the overall performance of the D which was awful.  The Patriots finished up with 464 total yards on offense (197 passing, 267 passing) in this game.  The Jaguars are now 7-8 on the season but they still have a very outside shot of making the playoffs with a win next week and a lot of help.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lose Clint Ingram for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports,Jaguar Headlines by admin on Tuesday 22 December 2009 at 7:20 pm

The Jaguars will be without 26-year old linebacker Clint Ingram for the rest of the year due to a shoulder injury.  Ingram played in 13 games for the Jaguars this season and he made 52 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss and a sack.  This will hurt the playoff chances for the Jaguars as Ingram is a solid football player.

Indianapolis Colts 35, Jacksonville Jaguars 31

The Jaguars outplayed the Colts for three quarters last night but they couldn’t finish in the 4th quarter.  David Garrard had one of his better games of the year for the Jaguars completing 23 of 40 passes for 223 yards with 3 TD passes and 1 INT.  Maurice Jones-Drew was all over the place for the Jaguars last night.  He carried the ball 27 times for 110 yards (4.1 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 5 passes for 30 yards (6.0 avg) with a TD grab.  Jones-Drew also returned 2 kickoffs for 59 yards (29.5 avg) last night.  Mike Sims-Walker led the way in the passing game for the Jags last night with 6 grabs for 64 yards (10.7 avg) with a TD grab.  Rookie WR Mike Thomas also had a busy night for the Jags with 2 grabs for 20 yards (10.0 avg) with a TD grab.  Thomas also returned 2 kickoffs for 82 yards (41.0 avg) and 2 punts for 17 yards (8.5 avg).  The Jaguars finished up with 345 total yards in this game (139 rushing, 206 passing) as they had possession of the ball for 35:26!

Linebackers Justin Durant (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and Russell Allen (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) led the way for the Jags on D last night.  The Colts finished up with 369 yards on offense (61 rushing, 307 passing) in this game.  The Jags also had some issues on special teams in this game as back-up RB Chad Simpson ran back a kickoff 93 yards for a TD.  The Jaguars are now 7-7 on the year.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 17 December 2009 at 10:59 am

The Jaguars will have a rare sellout crowd to play in front of tonight at home against the 13-0 Colts.  The Jags only lost 14-12 against the Colts in Indianapolis earlier this season.  With DEs Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis both banged up the Colts might decide to rest them.  If that is indeed the case, David Garrard should have a lot of time to throw the football.  The Colts are giving up 227.0 yards passing per game this season so the Jaguars will be likely throwing the ball more than usual tonight.  Still, Maurice Jones-Drew will get his touches against a Colts’ D that is allowing 110.4 yards rushing and 4.1 yards per carry this year.  Look for the Jags to score more points than usual tonight against the Colts.

The Jaguars don’t have much of a pass rush so they will likely have problems with Peyton Manning as the Colts are averaging 296.4 yards passing per game this season.  If the Colts decide to rest some starters in the 2nd half of this game the Jags’ D might dominate the rest of the game.  Back-up QB Curtis Painter of the Colts should make his NFL debut tonight and that should be great news for the Jaguars.

PREDICTION:  JAGUARS 23, COLTS 20

The Jacksonville Jaguars need David Garrard to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 17 December 2009 at 10:50 am

If the Jaguars are going to make the playoffs this season they are going to need QB David Garrard to step up.  Garrard has played in 13 games this season for the Jaguars and he has completed 250 of 412 passes (60.7%) for 2,987 yards with 10 TD passes and 6 INTs (84.9 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 66 times for 267 yards (4.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs this year.  Garrard often gets too much criticism for his play but I think he has had a decent run as QB of the Jags because he has never had a elite receiver to work with.  All of this talk about drafting Tim Tebow in the first round is madness.

Maurice Jones-Drew has been electric for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 17 December 2009 at 10:46 am

24-year old RB Maurice Jones-Drew has been outstanding this season for the Jaguars in his first season as the main man in the running game.  He has played in 13 games this season and he has carried the ball 251 times for 1,136 yards (4.5 ypc) with 14 TD runs.  He has also caught 44 passes for 303 yards (6.9 avg) so far this season.  Teams have been ganging up on Jones-Drew by putting more players in the box than usual but it hasn’t stopped him too much this year.  It’s a shame the Jags don’t have a better passing game to make teams pay for keying on Jones-Drew.

Mike Sims-Walker has stepped up for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 17 December 2009 at 10:43 am

25-year old WR Mike Sims-Walker didn’t do too much in his first two years in the NFL mostly because of gimpy knees.  But, he is healthy now as he has been the Jags’ top receiver this season.  Sims-Walker has played in 12 games this year for the Jaguars and he has caught 53 passes for 758 yards (14.3 avg) with 6 TD grabs.  It seems to me that Sims-Walker would be better off as a #2 WR in the NFL but the Jaguars can’t afford him to be that right now as Torry Holt is looking his age this season.  Look for the Jaguars to address this need at WR to complement Sims-Walker in either the draft or free agency.

The Jaguars played poorly on offense today which cost them any chance of winning this football game.  David Garrard had a piss-poor game as he completed only 11 of 26 passes for 139 yards with 0 TDs and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 6 times for 26 yards (4.3 ypc) today.  Maurice Jones-Drew was a hunted man today as he carried the ball 18 times for 59 yards (3.3 ypc) with a TD run.  He also caught 2 passes for 24 yards (12.0 avg) in this game.  Torry Holt led the way in the passing game for the Jags today with 2 catches for 71 yards (35.5 avg).  The Jaguars finished up with 217 total yards on offense in this game (95 rushing, 122 passing) as they only had possession of the ball for 24:54 today.

CB Tyron Brackenridge (9 tackles) and LB James Durant (7 tackles) led the way for the Jags on D in this game.  The Dolphins finished up with 354 total yards on offense (146 rushing, 208 passing) in this game.  The Jaguars are now 7-6 on the year.
