The Jacksonville Jaguars have been really busy so far this off-season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 7 April 2012 at 10:56 pm

The Jaguars have been really busy so far this year as they have re-signed 11 of their own free agents and they have also signed three high impact players from other teams.  Here is a look at what the Jaguars have done so far this off-season:

Offensively:  The Jaguars’ biggest two moves of the off-season have been signing WR Laurent Robinson and QB Chad Henne.  Robinson will be expected to be the Jaguars’ #1 WR in 2012, while Henne will be competing with Blaine Gabbert for the starting job at QB.  The Jaguars have also re-signed OT Guy Whimper, OT Will Robinson, TE Zach Potter and RB Brock Bolen.

Defensively:  The Jaguars wanted to keep the defense together in 2012, so they have re-signed CB Rashean Mathis, S Dwight Lowery, S Courtney Greene, DT C.J. Mosley and LB Russell Allen.  Those were big moves.  The Jaguars also signed CB Aaron Ross and he could be a huge upgrade on the opposite side of Rashean Mathis.

Special Teams:  The Jaguars slapped the franchise tag on kicker Josh Scobee.  They have also re-signed punter Nick Harris.  I like both of those moves as the special teams were strong for the Jags in 2011.

GRADE SO FAR THIS OFF-SEASON:  A-

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign RB Brock Bolen

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 3 April 2012 at 4:53 pm

The Jaguars have re-signed 27-year old RB Brock Bolen.  Bolen played in 13 games for the Jaguars last year and he had 2 carries for 14 yards (7.0 ypc).  Bolen also caught 2 passes for 6 yards (3.0 avg) and he had 7 tackles.  Bolen has now played in 20 games in his first two years with the Jags and he has carried the ball 2 times for 14 yards (7.0 ypc).  He has also caught 3 passes for 21 yards and he has tackles so far in his career.  This was a good move for the Jags as Bolen is a good special teams player and he gives them depth at RB.

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign TE Zach Potter

The Jaguars have re-signed 25-year old TE Zach Potter.  Potter played in 15 games for the Jaguars last year and he caught 5 passes for 50 yards (10.0 avg).  He has now played in 29 games in his first three years with the Jaguars and he has caught 9 passes for 77 yards (8.6 avg).  This was a good move for the Jaguars as Potter seems to be improving every year.

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign strong safety Courtney Greene

The Jaguars have re-signed 25-year old strong safety Courtney Greene to a 1-year, $1.26 million dollar deal.  Greene played in 7 games for the Jaguars last year and he had 10 tackles.  He has now played in 30 games in his first three years with the Jaguars and he has 93 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.  This was a good move for the Jaguars.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign Aaron Ross

The Jaguars have signed 29-year old CB Aaron Ross to a 3-year, $15.3 million dollar deal.  Ross played in all 16 games for the Giants last year and he had 60 tackles, 4 interceptions, 12 passes defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  Ross has now played in 65 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 200 tackles, 33 passes defensed, 10 interceptions (2 returned for TDs), 9 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks.  Ross will likely start opposite of Rashean Mathis at CB for the Jaguars in 2012.  I like this pickup for them.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign WR Laurent Robinson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 15 March 2012 at 5:04 pm

The Jaguars have signed 26-year old WR Laurent Robinson to a 5-year, $32 million dollar deal.  Robinson played in 14 games for  the Dallas Cowboys last year and he caught 54 passes for 858 yards (15.9 avg) with 11 TD grabs.  He has now played in 52 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has caught 143 passes for 1,858 yards (13.0 avg) with 15 TD grabs.  The Jaguars’ biggest weakness last year was a lack of a passing game, and Robinson is the right guy to try to change that in 2012 and beyond.  The Jaguars got themselves a  player on the rise in Robinson.

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign DT C.J. Mosley

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 15 March 2012 at 5:02 pm

The Jaguars have re-signed 28-year old DT C.J. Mosley to a 3-year, $7.5 million dollar deal.  Mosley played in 15 games for the Jaguars last year and he had 24 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.  He has now played in 23 games in his first two years with the Jags in which he has 25 tackles, 1 sack, 3 tackles for a loss and 1 forced fumble.  Mosley really showed improvement last season and the Jaguars rewarded him for it.  They hope Mosley continues to improve in 2012 and beyond.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign QB Chad Henne

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 15 March 2012 at 4:58 pm

The Jaguars have signed 26-year old QB Chad Henne to a 2-year deal.  Henne played in 4 games (all starts) for the Miami Dolphins last year and he completed 64 of 112 passes (57.1%) for 868 yards with 4 TD passes and 4 INTs (79.0 QB Rating).  Henne also carried the ball 15 times for 112 yards (7.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs last year.  Henne has now played in 36 games (31 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has completed 646 of 1,065 passes (60.7%) for 7,114 yards with 31 TD passes and 37 INTs (75.7 QB Rating).  Henne has also carried the ball 66 times for 196 yards (3.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs so far in his NFL career.  Henne is 13-18 (41.9%) as a starting QB in his NFL career so far.  This was a good move for the Jaguars as Chad Henne is going to battle Blaine Gabbert for the starting QB job in 2012.

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign LB Russell Allen

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 14 March 2012 at 8:57 pm

The Jaguars have re-signed 25-year old LB Russell Allen to a 3-year, $6 million dollar deal.  Allen played in all 16 games for the Jaguars last year and he finished up with 48 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 1/2 a sack, 2 forced fumbles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Allen has now played in 48 games in his first three years with the Jags and he has 136 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 1/2 a sack, 2 forced fumbles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  This was a good move to lock up Allen as he has been a pretty solid backer for the Jaguars so far in his career.

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign Dwight Lowery

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 14 March 2012 at 2:54 am

The Jaguars have re-signed 26-year old free safety Dwight Lowery.  Lowery played in 13 games for the Jaguars last year and he had 36 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 2 interceptions, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery.  Lowery has now played in 56 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 143 tackles, 9 interceptions (2 returned for TDs), 40 passes defensed, 3 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries.  This was a good move for the Jaguars as Lowery is a pretty solid safety.
