The Jacksonville Jaguars will lose 31-year old CB Rashean Mathis for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL.  Mathis played in 9 games for the Jaguars this year and he had 34 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 4 passes defensed, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception.  He has now played in 125 games in his first 9 years with the Jaguars and he has 498 tackles, 30 interceptions (3 returned for TDs), 98 passes defensed, 1 sack, 6 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 14 tackles for a loss.  This is a big loss for the Jaguars as Mathis is the one player on defense that they just can’t replace.

The Jaguars have placed 26-year old WR Mike Sims-Walker on the Injured Reserve List due to a foot injury.  Sims-Walker played in 2 games for the Jaguars this year and he caught 1 pass for 11 yards.  He has now played in 40 games in his four years with the Jaguars and he has caught 123 passes for 1,659 yards (13.5 avg) with 14 TD grabs.  This is a bad break for the Jaguars.

UPDATE:  (12/5/2011) – The Jaguars have waived Mike Sims-Walker with an injury settlement.

The Jaguars have signed 26-year old TE Martin Rucker off of the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.  Rucker played in 1 game for the Cowboys this year but he didn’t catch any passes.  Rucker has now played in 11 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has caught 2 passes for 17 yards (8.5 avg).  Rucker will try to replace Zach Miller who was placed on I.R. yesterday, ending his season.  To make room on the roster for Rucker, the Jaguars have placed 22-year old CB Rod Isaac on the Injured Reserve List due to a hamstring injury.  Isaac played in 3 games for the Jaguars this year but he didn’t have any tackles.

UPDATE:  (11/9/2011) – The Jaguars have placed Martin Rucker on I.R. due to an undisclosed problem.  He only played in 1 game for the Jaguars and he didn’t have any catches.

The Jaguars have placed 27-year old TE Zach Miller on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to a shoulder injury.  Miller played in 4 games for the Jaguars in 2011 and he caught 4 passes for 42 yards (10.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Miller has played in 33 games in his first three years with the Jaguars and he has caught 45 passes for 470 yards (10.4 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  The Jaguars can’t afford to lose playmakers like Miller.

The Jaguars signed 31-year old DE Aaron Kampman to a huge contract last summer and he played in 8 games for the Jags last year in which he had 25 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 2 passes defensed.  He missed the second half of last season after he blew out his knee.  He still isn’t ready to play for the Jaguars and they are really lucky that they signed 28-year old DE Matt Roth late this summer.  He has played in 2 games for the Jaguars so far this year and he already has 4 tackles and 2 sacks.  The Jaguars need Roth to keep up the good work while Kampman is out of action.

The Jaguars have placed 23-year old DT D’Anthony Smith on the Injured Reserve List due to a foot injury.  This is Smith’s second year in the NFL and he will have missed both years due to injury.  Smith suffered an Achilles tendon tear last year as a rookie.  The former 3rd round pick isn’t likely to get many more chances with the Jaguars as he is starting to look quite injury proned.

The Jaguars have placed 25-year old CB David Jones on the Injured Reserve List due to an undisclosed injury.  Jones played in all 16 games for the Jaguars last year and he had 33 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble.  He has now played in 49 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 89 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception and 10 passes defensed.

UPDATE:  (9/12/2011) – The Jaguars have released David Jones with an injury settlement.

The Jaguars have placed 26-year old RB Rashad Jennings on the Injured Reserve List due to a knee injury.  Jennings has played in 28 games (3 starts) in his first two years with the Jaguars and he has carried the ball 123 times for 661 yards (5.4 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He has also caught 42 passes for 324 yards (7.7 avg) so far in his NFL career.  It will be up to Deji Karim and DuJuan Harris to back up Maurice Jones-Drew in 2011.  The Jaguars are going to miss Jennings as he has always stepped in and played well for them when needed.

25-year old RB Maurice Jones-Drew will miss the season finale against the Texans this Sunday due to a knee problem.  Jones-Drew played in 14 games for the Jaguars this year and he carried the ball 299 times for 1,324 yards (4.4 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He also caught 34 passes for 317 yards (9.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs this year.  The Jaguars really need Rashad Jennings to step up against the Texans.  Maurice Jones-Drew might be able to return for the playoffs if the Jaguars can make it to them.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed 32-year old QB David Garrard on the Injured Reserve List ending his season due to surgery on his right middle finger.  Garrard played in 14 games for the Jaguars this year and he completed 236 of 366 passes (64.5%) for 2,734 yards with 23 TD passes and 15 INTs (90.8 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 66 times for 279 yards (4.2 ypc) with 5 TD runs this year.  He goes down at a very had time for the Jaguars who need a win at Houston this Sunday and a loss by the Colts in Indy against the Titans to make the playoffs.
