Rookie 6th round pick (RB) Deji Karim will miss the rest of the pre-season due to surgery on his left thumb.  Karim played in the first two pre-season games for the Jaguars in which he carried the ball 2 times for 9 yards (4.5 ypc) and he caught 2 passes for 5 yards (2.5 avg).  Karim was outstanding on kickoff returns as he returned 9 of them for 295 yards (32.8 avg).  That is where he will be missed the most.

The Jaguars have placed 27-year old linebacker Freddie Keiaho on the Injured Reserve List ending his season due to a severe concussion.  Keiaho looked pretty good in the pre-season opener against the Eagles when he had 5 tackles.  He played in 16 games (2 starts) with the Colts last season and he had 38 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass defensed.  This a blow to the linebacker depth on the Jaguars as they liked Keiaho.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release DE Reggie Hayward

The Jaguars have released 31-year old DE Reggie Hayward.  Hayward only played in 1 game for the Jaguars last season due to injury and he had 2 tackles and 1 sack.  He played in 44 games in his 4 years with the Jaguars and he had 77 tackles, defensed 10 passes, had 17.5 sacks and he forced 5 fumbles.  The Jaguars brought in new DEs for 2010 which has made Hayward expendable.

The Jacksonville Jaguars acquire OG Justin Smiley from the Dolphins

Blogged under Trades, Bloglockers, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by admin on Monday 24 May 2010 at 10:50 pm

The Jaguars have acquired 28-year old OG Justin Smiley from the Dolphins for a 7th round pick.  He is 6′3″, 310 pounds and he has a lot of experience so he will battle for a starting job in 2010.  Smiley played in 15 games (12 starts) for the Dolphins last season and he has played in 83 games (73 starts) in his six years in the NFL.  This was a good trade for the Jaguars as they get Smiley for pennies on a dollar.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lose DE/OLB Bryan Smith for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, Injury Reports, General by admin on Tuesday 4 May 2010 at 3:56 pm

The Jaguars have lost 26-year old DE/OLB Bryan Smith for the season.  He tore his ACL over the weekend at Jaguars’ mini-camp.  Smith played in 6 games as a rookie last season for the Jags and he had 6 tackles including 2 tackles for a loss.  This will hurt Smith more than the Jaguars as he was going to get a chance for more playing time in 2010.

UPDATE: (5/10/2010) - Smith has been officially placed on the Injured Reserve List ending his 2010 season before it begins.
