The Jacksonville Jaguars hire Mike Mularkey

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Jaguar Headlines by admin on Wednesday 11 January 2012 at 5:18 am

The Jaguars have hired 50-year old Mike Mularkey to be their new head coach.  Mularkey has been the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons the last four years.  He has been and NFL assistant coach for 16 years, serving as the offensive coordinator for 8 of those seasons.  This is his second go around as a head coach in the NFL.  He compiled a 14-18 record (43.8%) in charge of the 2004 and 2005 Buffalo Bills.  They definitely picked Mularkey to add some juice to the offense, which was pathetic last season.  Mularkey will be replacing 40-year old Mel Tucker, who served as the interim head coach the last five weeks of the 2011 season for the Jaguars.  He led the Jags to a 2-3 record as they averaged 21.0 points per game while giving up 25.8 points per game.  Coach Mularkey is going to try to convince Mel Tucker to stay on the coaching staff for 2012.

26-year old RB Maurice Jones-Drew has been a one man gang offensively for the Jaguars so far this year.  He has played in 15 games for the Jaguars and he has carried the ball 318 times for 1,437 yards (4.5 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  Jones-Drew has also caught 42 passes for 370 yards (8.8 avg) with 3 TD grabs so far this season.  Those numbers are even more impressive when you consider that the Jaguars are only averaging 140.5 yards passing so far this year, so teams have been keying on stopping him.  Jones-Drew has now played in 92 games in his first six years for the Jaguars and he has carried the ball 1,459 times for 6,685 yards (4.6 ypc) with 62 TD runs.  He has also caught 277 passes for 2,469 yards (8.9 avg) with 10 TD grabs.  Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the best football players in Jacksonville Jaguars’ history and he’s going to continue putting up outstanding numbers for them, health permitting.

The Jaguars have signed 29-year old DE John Chick on the Injured Reserve List due to a nasty knee injury suffered against the Chargers last Monday Night.  He played in 11 games for the Jaguars this year and he had 8 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and he defensed 2 passes.  This is a bad break for both Chick and the Jaguars, as he was getting his big chance to show what he can do, and he was playing well.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Jaguar Headlines by admin on Tuesday 6 December 2011 at 3:51 am

The Jaguars have claimed 24-year old WR Taylor Price off waivers from the New England Patriots.  Price played in 3 games for the Patriots earlier this year but he didn’t catch any passes.  He has now played in 4 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has caught 3 passes for 41 yards (13.7 avg).  With the state of the Jaguars at WR, it makes perfect sense of them to take a flier on a player like Price.

The Jaguars have placed 25-year old cornerback William Middleton on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to a knee injury.  He played in 11 games for the Jaguars this year and he had 38 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 3 passes defensed and 1 interception.  He has now played in 39 games in his first three years with the Jaguars and he has 105 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 4 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  The Jaguars keep losing players in the secondary, so losing Middleton is going to hurt.

The Jaguars have waived 26-year old WR Jason Hill.  Hill played in 10 games for the Jaguars this year and he caught 25 passes for 367 yards (14.7 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Jaguars’ QBs completed 25 of 55 passes (45.5%) aimed at Hill this year.  Hill played in 16 games in his two years with the Jaguars and he caught 36 passes for 615 yards (17.1 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  This might hurt the Jaguars’ passing game if that is even possible.
