Blaine Gabbert has been looking a little better lately for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 14 December 2011 at 6:48 pm

22-year old rookie QB Blaine Gabbert has looked a lot better the last couple of weeks for the Jaguars.  In his last two games, Gabbert has completed 38 of 66 passes (57.6%) for 412 yards with 4 TD passes and 3 INTs.  He has now played in 12 games for the Jaguars this year and he has completed 166 of 330 passes (50.3%) for 1,783 yards with 10 TD passes and 9 INTs (65.3 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 43 times for 92 yards (2.1 ypc) so far this year.  In Gabbert’s defense, the only receiver he can depend on right now is RB Maurice Jones-Drew, so the lack of a passing game isn’t all of his fault.

Paul Poslusny has been rock solid for the Jacksonville Jaguars this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Tuesday 6 December 2011 at 5:06 pm

The Jaguars expected 27-year old linebacker Paul Poslusny to bring toughness to the defense when they signed him as a free agent.  He has done exactly that for them.  He has played in 12 games for the Jaguars this year and he has 95 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 6 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Poslusny has now played in 57 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 492 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 20 passes defensed and 5 interceptions.

Dawan Landry is playing very solid football for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 30 November 2011 at 11:16 pm

28-year old safety Dawan Landry was a shrew addition to the defense over the off-season.  He has played in 11 games for the Jaguars so far this year and he has 70 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1/2 a sack, 1 forced fumble, 4 passes defensed and 2 tackles for a loss.  Landry has now played in 77 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has 432 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 33 passes defensed and 11 interceptions (3 returned for TDs).  The Jaguars should try to keep Landry around for a while as he has been very solid for them this year.

Blaine Gabbert is starting to play better for the Jacksonville Jaguars as of late

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Tuesday 22 November 2011 at 10:56 pm

22-year old rookie QB Blaine Gabbert has had a rough time so far in his rookie season, but he has played better as of late.  In his last two games, Gabbert has completed 36 of 62 passes (58.1%) for 328 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He has now played in 9 games so far this year and he has completed 115 of 235 passes (48.9%) for 1,235 yards with 6 TD passes and 5 INTs (64.4 QB Rating).  Gabbert has also carried the ball 32 times for 75 yards (2.3 ypc) so far this year.  There is no real fallback option to Gabbert as Luke McCown has not played well this year.  McCown has played in 3 games for the Jaguars so far this year and he has completed 23 of 45 passes (51.1%) for 234 yards with 0 TD passes and 4 INTs (29.3 QB Rating).  McCown has also carried the ball 6 times for 14 yards (2.3 ypc) so far this season.

Daryl Smith continues to play solid football for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Tuesday 15 November 2011 at 11:41 pm

29-year old linebacker Daryl Smith keeps rolling along for the Jacksonville Jaguars.  He has played in all 9 games for the Jaguars so far this year and he has 67 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception and 6 passes defensed.  Smith has now played in 117 games in his first 8 years with the Jaguars and he has 633 tackles, 40 tackles for a loss, 20.5 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 6 interceptions and 37 passes defensed.  Smith has been one of the better linebackers in Jaguars’ history and they hope he can keep up the good work.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are running well so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 22 October 2011 at 11:13 pm

With the Jaguars starting a rookie QB (Blaine Gabbert), everyone and his brother know that they are going to run the ball.  That being said, Maurice Jones-Drew continues to roll.  He has played in all six games for the Jaguars so far this year and he has carried the ball 118 times for 572 yards (4.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Jones-Drew has also caught 9 passes for 75 yards (8.3 avg) so far this year.  Second year RB Deji Karim has been giving Jones-Drew a rest once in a while this year to keep his hit count down.  Karim has also played in all six games for the Jags so far this year and he has carried the ball 36 times for 83 yards (2.3 ypc).  He has also caught 9 passes for 95 yards (10.6 avg) so far this year.  The Jaguars are averaging 120.7 yards rushing per game so far this year and they are averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

Mike Thomas has been the only receiver making a mark for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 6 October 2011 at 11:20 pm

24-year old WR Mike Thomas is off to a good start this year for the Jaguars.  He has played in all four games for the Jaguars so far this year and he has caught 20 passes for 212 yards (10.6 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Thomas is the only player on the Jaguars’ roster with more than 7 catches or 92 yards receiving.  If nobody steps up and gives the Jaguars another threat in the passing game, opposing defenses are just going to double Thomas and make Blaine Gabbert beat them by throwing to someone else.

Rashean Mathis is off to a good start in 2011 for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 28 September 2011 at 12:39 pm

31-year old cornerback Rashean Mathis is off to a good start once again in 2011 for the Jaguars.  He has played in all 3 games for the Jaguars so far this year and he has 15 tackles, 1 interception and 2 passes defensed.  Mathis just doesn’t seem to get the respect he deserves and I think it’s because he plays in Jacksonville.  Mathis played in 116 games in his first 8 years in the NFL (through 2010) and he had 464 tackles, 94 passes defensed, 29 interceptions (3 returned for TDs), 6 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries and 13 tackles for a loss.   Mathis still can lockdown his side of the field.

Luke McCown had a solid opener for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 14 September 2011 at 7:51 pm

30-year old QB Luke McCown looked solid in his first start for the Jags last weekend against the Titans.  He completed 17 of 24 passes (70.8%) for 175 yards without a TD pass or INT (91.5 QB Rating).  McCown also carried the ball 5 times for 10 yards (2.0 ypc) last week.  McCown wasn’t called on to make big plays by throwing the ball down the field as he was more of a game manager.  That’s because the Jaguars rushed for 163 yards on 47 carries (3.5 ypc) with 1 TD run last week.  Chances are good though that McCown is going to have to make some plays with his right arm against the Jets this weekend.

Rookie RB DuJuan Harris is looking good for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up,The Pre-Season by admin on Monday 29 August 2011 at 7:10 pm

22-year old undrafted rookie RB DuJuan Harris is making a big impression on the Jaguars despite only standing 5’7″, 197 pounds.  Harris has played in all 3 preseason games for the Jaguars so far and he has carried the ball 16 times for 76 yards (4.8 ypc).  He also has caught 5 passes for 22 yards (4.4 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Harris is still going to have a hard time making the team because he has Maurice Jones-Drew, Rashad Jennings and Deji Karim ahead of him on the depth chart.
