Mike Thomas is really stepping up for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Mike Thomas has played pretty well for the Jaguars this season serving as the teams’ #3 WR.  Thomas has played in 8 games for the Jaguars this season and he has carried the ball 9 times for 82 yards (9.1 ypc) and he has also caught 25 passes for 223 yards (8.9 avg).  The 4th round pick out of Arizona might push Torry Holt to a new city next season if he finishes this year strongly.

Mike Sims-Walker has been outstanding this season for the Jacksonville Jaguars

24-year old WR Mike Sims-Walker is finally healthy this season and he is playing very well.  Sims-Walker has played in 8 games for the Jaguars this year and he has caught 39 passes for 603 yards (15.5 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  The Jaguars have needed a #1 WR for a long time now and they might finally have one.  Sims-Walker only played in 9 games in his first two years in the NFL because of knee problems and he caught 16 passes for 217 yards (13.6 avg) without a TD.  The Jaguars need him to keep up the good work.

Daryl Smith is playing solid ball for the Jacksonville Jaguars

27-year old linebacker Daryl Smith is playing pretty well for the Jaguars right now.  He has played in 6 games this season and he has 38 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and he has defensed 2 passes.  The D-Line of the Jaguars needs to start keeping the linebackers clean.  If that starts to happen Smith will be even more involved in the defense.

Torry Holt has been stepping up for the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have to be happy with veteran Torry Holt’s performance this season.  After all, the veteran is leading the team in both receptions (22) and receiving yards (306).  The maddening thing about the Jaguars’ offense is the fact that they don’t throw the ball to Holt when they get near the end zone.  He has by far the best hands on the team and you would think they he would be the go-to guy in those situations.  What you see is what you get with him.  Mike Sims-Walker appears to be David Garrard’s favorite  receiver by he is not the most mature guy on the team as he was not allowed to play last week for violating team curfew the night before the game.  The Jags need to start getting the ball to Holt when they get close to the end zone.

Jacksonville Jaguars need a consistent David Garrard

Blogged under Bloglockers,Steppin Up by Andrew on Monday 5 October 2009 at 3:17 pm

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback David Garrard has done a good job not turning the ball over this year, but until this week Garrard was not making enough plays.  The Jaguars need the David Garrard that showed up against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, where he threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns on 27/37 ( 73%) pass attempts.  Going into Sunday’s game, Garrard had only two touchdown passes and was completing 54% of his passes.  Garrard has been doing a good job of not forcing anything, but there is a difference between being careful and being timid.  Garrard figured that out on Sunday and looked like a Pro-Bowl quarterback.  It was against the 0-4 Titans, but if Garrard can play close to the way he played Sunday then the Jaguars will be in very good shape.

Mike Sims-Walker is stepping up for the Jacksonville Jaguars

A name change and health have turned Mike Sims-Walker into a very solid WR which is just what the doctor ordered for the offense.  He has caught 12 passes for 187 yards (15.6 avg) with a TD grab.  Sims-Walker adds speed to the WR position for the Jags and he makes a nice team with veteran wideout Torry Holt.  The Jaguars have their fingers crossed that he can stay healthy all year long.

Maurice Jones-Drew looked solid as the feature back for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 17 September 2009 at 1:04 pm

Until this season Maurice Jones-Drew always had to share the ball with Fred Taylor.  Taylor has since signed with the Patriots leaving Maurice Jones-Drew to carry the offense without a net.  By that I mean that there is not much behind Drew in the way of depth so the running game is in his hands.  He carried the ball 21 times for 97 yards (4.6 ypc) with 1 TD grab.  He also caught 5 passes for 26 yards (5.2 avg) out of the backfield.  Drew is the most important player on the team so the Jaguars have to watch his workload so he doesn’t wear out.
