The Jacksonville Jaguars acquire CB Dwight Lowery from the Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Jaguar Headlines,Trades by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 8:27 pm

The Jaguars have acquired 25-year old CB Dwight Lowery from the Jets for an undisclosed draft pick.  Lowery played in 14 games for the Jets last year and he had 19 tackles, 3 interceptions (2 returned for TDs), 7 passes defensed, 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.  He has now played in 43 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 107 tackles, 32 passes defensed, 7 interceptions (2 returned for TDs), 5 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries and 1 tackle for a loss.  This was a good deal for the Jaguars as Lowery is a big time playmaker.

The Jacksonville Jaguars deal Anthony Smith to the Packers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Jaguar Headlines,Leaving Town,Trades by admin on Tuesday 19 October 2010 at 2:38 pm

The Jaguars have dealt 27-year old safety Anthony Smith to the Packers for a conditional 7th round pick in 2011.  Smith played in 3 games for the Jaguars this season and he had 15 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  This was a good deal for the Jaguars who saw enough of Smith to know that he wasn’t going to help them too much this year or down the road.

The Jacksonville Jaguars deal Reggie Nelson to the Bengals

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Jaguar Headlines,Trades by admin on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 6:16 pm

The Jaguars have sent 26-year old free safety Reggie Nelson to the Bengals for 24-year old cornerback David Jones.  Nelson played in 16 games (14 starts) for the Jags last season and he had 70 tackles and defensed 5 passes.  He played in 45 games (42 starts) in his three years with the Jags and he had 187 tackles, 1 sack, 20 passes defensed, 7 interceptions and 1 forced fumble.  He was a huge disappointment after being a high first round pick for the Jaguars not that long ago.  David Jones played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Bengals last season and he had 11 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  Jones has now played in 33 games (7 starts) in his three years with the Bengals and he has 56 tackles and 7 passes defensed.  I don’t expect that Jones will be anything more than a nickel or dime back and a special teams player for the Jags.

The Jacksonville Jaguars acquire OG Justin Smiley from the Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Jaguar Headlines,Trades by admin on Monday 24 May 2010 at 10:50 pm

The Jaguars have acquired 28-year old OG Justin Smiley from the Dolphins for a 7th round pick.  He is 6’3″, 310 pounds and he has a lot of experience so he will battle for a starting job in 2010.  Smiley played in 15 games (12 starts) for the Dolphins last season and he has played in 83 games (73 starts) in his six years in the NFL.  This was a good trade for the Jaguars as they get Smiley for pennies on a dollar.

The Jacksonville Jaguars acquire linebacker Kirk Morrison from the Raiders

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Jaguar Headlines,The Draft Report,Trades by admin on Sunday 25 April 2010 at 7:03 pm

The Jaguars have acquired 28-year old inside linebacker Kirk Morrison from the Raiders for a 4th round pick in the NFL Draft.  Morrison played in 16 games for the Raiders last season and he finished up with 133 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and he defensed 1 pass.  In his 5 years with the Raiders he played in 80 games in which he has made 632 tackles, defensed 19 passes, he has 5 sacks and 7 interceptions.  I love this pickup for the Jaguars as Morrison is a tackling machine who will help against the running game in 2010.

The Jacksonville Jaguars trade DE Quentin Groves to the Raiders

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Wednesday 21 April 2010 at 6:26 pm

The Jaguars have traded 25-year old DE Quentin Groves to the Raiders for a 5th round pick in this weekend’s NFL Draft.  Groves played in all 16 games for the Jaguars last season and he made 30 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, he forced 1 fumble, defensed 1 pass and he had 1 interception.  In his two years with the Jags, Groves played in 32 games and he had 43 tackles, defensed 2 passes, had 2.5 sacks, he forced 2 fumbles and he had 1 interception.  Groves was a bust with the Jaguars who thought he would be a standout rushing the passer.  Oh well, everyone makes mistakes.  With that in mind a 5th round pick will probably turn out to be good value for the Jags in this trade.

Luke McCown comes to the Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Tuesday 15 September 2009 at 10:31 am

Last week the Jaguars acquired 28-year old QB Luke McCown from the Bucs for a undisclosed draft pick.  McCown will be David Garrard’s backup after the Jags released Todd Bouman shortly after acquiring McCown.  McCown played in 2 games for the Bucs last season and he only threw one pass (incomplete) and carried the ball 3 times for 15 yards.  McCown has now played in 12 games in his NFL career in which he has completed 142 of 238 passes (59.7%) for 1,617 yards with 9 TD passes and 10 interceptions (75.2 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 21 times for 157 yards (7.5 ypc) in his career.  This was a good trade for the Jaguars as McCown will do a good job if needed.

The Jacksonville Jaguars trade DT Tony McDaniel to the Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Jaguar Headlines,Trades by admin on Thursday 19 March 2009 at 9:58 pm

The Jaguars have signed 24-year old DT Tony McDaniel to the Dolphins for a 7th round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.  McDaniel played in 10 games for the Jaguars last season and he made 16 tackles, defensed 2 passes and had 1/2 a sack.  McDaniel played 3 seasons for the Jaguars covering 25 games in which he made 37 tackles, defensed 4 passes and he had 1.5 sacks.  McDaniel doesn’t have much of an upside so it was a good move to get a 7th round pick for him.

The Jacksonville Jaguars trade DT Marcus Stroud to the Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Jaguar Headlines,Trades by admin on Sunday 2 March 2008 at 12:09 am

The Jaguars have traded Marcus Stroud to the Buffalo Bills for a 3rd and 5th round pick in next month’s NFL Draft.  Stroud only played in 9 games last season for the Jaguars due to injuries and he made 22 tackles, defensed 2 passes and had 3 sacks.  Stroud finished his career with the Jaguars having played in 100 games in which he made 278 tackles, defensed 23 passes, sacked the QB 22 times and he forced 6 fumbles.  If the Jaguars are correct in their thinking that Stroud is on the downside of his career this will be a good trade.
