The Jaguars have signed 27-year old kicker Brandon Coutu. Coutu played in 1 game for the Buffalo Bills last year and he missed his only field goal attempt. He did make all three of his extra point as he scored 3 points for the Bills last year. Coutu was brought in to compete with Josh Scobee for the starting kicker job and I always view competition as a good thing.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release WR Jarett Dillard

The Jaguars have released 26-year old WR Jarett Dillard. Dillard played in 14 games for the Jaguars last year and he caught 29 passes for 292 yards (10.1 avg) with 1 TD grab. Dillard played in 21 games in his three years with the Jags and he caught 35 passes for 398 yards (11.4 avg) with 1 TD grab. The Jaguars have reloaded at WR and that has forced Dillard out of town. Some team might give him a shot in 2012, but the Jaguars won’t miss him.

The Jaguars have signed 27-year old QB Jordan Palmer. Palmer didn’t play last year. He has played in 4 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has completed 10 of 15 passes (66.7%) for 59 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs (34.4 QB Rating). Palmer has also carried the ball 1 time for 4 yards in his career. Palmer will likely be the Jaguars’ #3 QB in 2012, if they decide to carry 3 quarterbacks.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed 30-year old fullback Naufahu Tahi. He didn’t play in the NFL last year. Tahi has played in 56 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 10 times for 21 yards (2.1 ypc). He also has caught 33 passes for 150 yards (4.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs. Tahi’s game is going to be run blocking and going out for a pass once in a while. Maurice Jones-Drew is probably happy with this move.

The Jaguars have signed 26-year old RB Jalen Parmele. Parmele didn’t play in the NFL last year. He has played in 24 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 7 times for 44 yards (6.3 ypc). Parmele is a solid special teams player as he has returned 33 kickoffs for 845 yards (25.6 avg) and he also has 13 tackles and 2 forced fumbles so far in his career. This was a solid pickup for the Jaguars as Parmele will give them depth at RB and help on special teams in 2012.

The Jaguars have waived 33-year old punter Nick Harris. This should come as little suprise as the handwriting was on the wall for this move when the Jags used a 3rd round pick on punter Bryan Anger in the 2012 NFL Draft. Harris played in 11 games for the Jaguars last year and he punted the ball 72 times for 3,045 yards (42.7 avg). He also had 5 touchbacks (6.9%) and pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 13 times (18.1%) last year. After Harris cleared waivers, he was signed by the Carolina Panthers.

The Jaguars have released 29-year old CB Drew Coleman. Coleman played in all 16 games for the Jaguars last year and he had 46 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, 9 passes defensed and 2 tackles for a loss. Coleman has now played in 83 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has 165 tackles, 8 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, 4 interceptions, 27 passes defensed and 3 tackles for a loss. Coleman won’t likely be out of work too long.

The Jacksonville Jaguars picked DT Jeris Pendleton in the 7th round

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected DT Jeris Pendleton out of tiny Ashland (Ohio) University with the 228th overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Pendleton comes into his rookie season as a 28-year old as he had academic and family problems that caused him to start college late. Pendleton is a huge man at 6’2″, 328 pounds and he was a solid run defender in college, albeit at very small schools. Pendleton played in 11 games (all starts) at Ashland last year and he had 49 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks and 2 batted balls. Pendleton played four years in college (two at Ashland and two at Joilet (ILL)) in which he had 165.5 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, 12.5 sacks, 3 batted balls and 2 forced fumbles. It will be interesting to see if Pendleton can handle the huge increase in the level of competition that he’s used to playing.

The Jacksonville Jaguars picked CB Mike Harris in the 6th round

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected CB Mike Harris out of Florida State with the 176th overall pick (6th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Harris is on the small side at 5’10″, 181 pounds and he runs a 4.55 40. Harris is a good tackler and he makes plays on the ball when it’s in the air. But, he does have trouble with really fast WRs and he sometimes has trouble getting off blocks due to his size. He is a special teams ace though and that is going to help his cause. Harris played in 13 games (7 starts) at Florida State last year and he had 58 tackles, 9 passes broken up and 1 interception. He played in 27 games (7 starts) in his two years with the Seminoles and he has 99 tackles, 14 passes broken up and 5 interceptions. This was another solid pick as Harris was supposed to be long gone by the 6th round.

The Jacksonville Jaguars picked OLB Brandon Marshall in the 5th round

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected OLB Brandon Marshall out of Nevada with the 142nd overall pick (5th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Marshall is 6’1″, 254 pounds and he runs a 4.74 40. Marshall is a good athlete who is hungry to get better. He is versatile as he can play inside or outside linebacker. He is good at running with TEs and RBs in pass coverage, but he’s not much of a blitzer. Marshall played in 13 games (all starts) for Nevada last year and he had 102 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and he broke up 4 passes. He played in 52 games (48 starts) in his four years with the Wolfpack and he had 259 tackles, 33.5 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 16 passes broken up and 3 interceptions. This was a solid pick for the Jaguars as Marshall will likely backup at both outside and inside linebacker in 2012 as well as helping out on special teams. He could develop into a starter down the road a bit.
